Georgia's New Voting Law

Finding ways to prevent voters from voting has been happening since 1890, but Georgia decided to take it a step further by taking drastic precaution in fear of the state newly rising blue. What they did will shock you! Keep on scrolling for more.

Georgia has tried to eliminate voters for so long; they stripped a necessity from voters in line within 150 feet away from the poll: eating and drinking.

Yes, you heard it! It is now illegal to eat, drink, or pass out food and drinks to others, within 150 feet of the poll in the state of Georgia. This has been done to prevent people from standing in the long voting lines to cast their vote and is targeted to the Urban community.

Many people are in outrage to hear about this new law and are ready to rebel against it.

Republicans are defending this act by saying it is to create more confidence in voting and it will help voting become secure, fair, and accessible. We all know that is not the case.

This past election, Georgia was turned into a blue stand because of the overwhelming black and new voters participating in voting this year. With the newly diverse voting, Biden and two democratic Senators won. What was a long time red state shifted to a blue state because of the profuse turnout of black democratic voters.

It is extremely heartbreaking to see the actions of Georgia affect our country as they try to persuade other states like Michigan, Arizona, and Florida to adopt this negative, unnecessary act. We shouldn’t stand for it! Eating and drinking is a right that shouldn’t be stripped from voters simply because republicans can’t handle a lost.

President Biden shared his views on this outrageous voting law calling it an atrocity. In his words, Biden said,  "It's an atrocity!" "They passed a law saying you can't provide water for people standing in a line while they're waiting to vote. You don't need anything else to know that this is nothing but punitive designed to keep people from voting...give me a break."

Voting Activists are questioning if Biden is doing enough to overrule this law and Warnock stands by Biden's side. "Oh, I think the President is engaged on this issue and when I've talked to him, he has agreed that voting rights are foundational." Warnock said confidently.

It is not an act of solidarity nor will it better this “united” country. It is the duty of those in office to protect all people and when leaders let their personal feelings get in the way of that, they are no longer doing their job.

Republican Governor Brian Kemp. and many other leaders who participated in legislating this act should be held responsible for the unjust action of their ways!
