Daunte Wright's Death

Over the 15 years, at this time, that I have been alive, I have experience trauma from the many racially motivated deaths of black people. When the nation takes one step forward, we take two step backwards, Honestly, I can speak on the many deaths that happened on camera within 15 years, but it will never end, so today I want to talk about one that is being recognized all over the nation.

The story of his death

Daunte Wright wasn't even at the peek of his life considering he was only 20 years old when he was murdered by Police Officer Kim Poller. It all started when Mr. Wright was being pulled over due to traffic violation. While he was being pulled over, he was on the phone with his mother, Katie Wright. He mention to her, at that moment, that he was being pulled over because the car air fresheners hanging from the mirror of his car. I believe it was also to the police's knowledge that he had expired tags, but what they didn't know was the fact that he had a warrant out for his arrest.

Ms. Wright was present in the phone call up until Officer Poller shouted, "Taser! Taser!" while pointing a Glock towards Mr. Wright. He was shot in the chest and his vehicle crashed into another. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Ms. Wright heard scuffling through the phone and it hung up.

How? We don't know. But, she called back and somebody who was with Daunte at the moment picked up, breaking the news to the mother of young Daunte Wright.

Reaction and Perspective of this tragedy

I mourn with Ms. Katie Wright!

Losing a child due to something that can't be changed is traumatizing and I can only imagine the grieving of this woman.

This incident happened less than 14 miles away from the painful death of George Floyd. It is exhausting to see our negative history repeat its self over and over and over again.

Someone died. A black YOUNG man died. And, it hurts not only Daunte's family and child, but every black person who has to witness, yet another black man gone. Things won't change until it hurts people in many different races to hear a story or witness such a horrible moment.

Mr. Wright was so young and had his whole life ahead of him, but is now resting 6 feet under.

When will the lesson be learnt? When will history stop taking this horrific cycle? When will walking or riding somewhere be safe for people of color?

Traffic Violation shouldn't be a death sentence. Walking home shouldn't be a death sentence. Fraud shouldn't be a death sentence. Daunte should still be alive, but since he isn't, justice must be served for the sake of The Wright family and for a nation of solidarity. Officer Poller resigned because she failed to do her duties to protect and serve.
